ARTIST'S
STATEMENT
My work
conveys the spirituality and beauty that I see in the world
around me. It is not contextual. It is not about political
issues, but instead draws upon the beauty that surrounds us
and the power that nurtures the life within each of us. Rather
than something to believe in, I find meaning in being.
My oil
paintings are about the inner experiences of participation
in the world. Each piece begins with a visceral feeling that
needs expression, and I use landscapes as the point of departure.
My current
work has focused on natural phenomena: skies, the seasons
and times of day. The feeling of romance transcends literal
identification and allows immersion without reason, explanation
or judgment. Only exposure remains. What I want the viewer
to get from my work is a feeling of serenity, love, beauty
and romance and ultimately a private acknowledgment of the
importance of their being, their eternal self.
Some
of my oil paintings are vignettes; others are narratives and
are done when visual forms combine with a consciousness of
being and its intrinsic value.
The art
illustrates an appreciation of being alive in the moment,
but also an affirmation that we are eternal, though mortal,
still.
